Enjoy 4 days of cycling in the southern part of Fyn and nearby islands, a very popular summer destination for active travellers with room for everybody.

Whether you are into cycling to lovely beaches, to breath taking hills with stunning views, or to charming villages with cosy cafés, the south of Fyn is something for you.

Sailing is an important part of your holiday in south Funen.

The ferry ride to Ærø gives you intriguing glimpses of small islands inhabitated by few people – some of them with only grazing cattle. 

Ærø itself is a highlight – fertile landscapes with small farms between the rolling hills and small, old maritime towns.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Svendborg

Svendborg is a vibrant and exciting town with a historical centre. Shops and restaurants offer tasty, healthy and locally grown food, which has become a brand for south Fyn: “The Taste of Fyn” - “Smagen af Fyn”. You can explore the traditional wooden shipyard or visit the modern museum of natural history. All our hotels are situated with easy access to cycle friendly roads.

Your bikes will be at the hotel on the afternoon of your arrival.

Overnight stay in Svendborg.

Day 2: Svendborg to Faaborg. ca. 40 km

On today's route you will be cycling along the South Fyn coastline, passing small harbours where you can stop to experience the tranquil harbour atmosphere while enjoying your lunch. You will be passing through small villages with thatched houses, and open fertile fields with grazing cattle and an apple orchard with beautiful views to the sea.

Plenty of opportunity to stop for at dip in the sea before arriving at your hotel in Svendborg.

Overnight stay in Faaborg.

Day 3: Discover the island of Ærø. 21 km / 48 km

A day in the South Funen island archipelago awaits you. You sail from Fåborg and have a view of several islands. Als and all the way to Jutland, before you land in Søby on the northern part of Ærø.

You cycle to Marstal, perhaps with a visit to Voderup Klint or the local brewery Ærø Bryggeri in Riise.

After visiting the famous maritime town of Marstal, you follow the coast to Ærøskøbing, which has the most beautiful center with cobbled streets and well-preserved historic houses.

At the end of the day, you sail back to Svendborg.

Overnight stay in Svendborg.

The tour officially ends after breakfast.

Before leaving Svendborg, we recommend hearding out on a day's bike tour to explore more of the  nearby area.

Just to mention a few options:

1) Visit the islands of Thurø and Taasinge

Cycle across the bridge to the island of Thurø with its important maritime centre and charming village. From here you can take the vintage ship “Helge” to Taasinge where you pass cute, timbered houses on your way to Valdemar Castle. You can also go see the more than 500 year old oak tree The Ambrosius Oak and visit various farm shops along the way.

As you bike along the peaceful roads, you will pass stunning nature sight and beautiful views. Make a stop at the cosy harbour Skovballehavn and breathe in the fresh ocean air.

Cycle back to Svendborg across the bridge “Svendborgsundbroen”.

2) “Island jump” - Laid back cycling:

For a price of only 18 euro you and your bike can take a day trip with the ferry to the small islands Skarø and Drejø.

3) Cycle to Egeskov Castle:

Another option is to cycle to Egeskov Castle to spend the day. Egeskov castle is north of Svendborg and offers great experiences for the whole family with one of the most beautiful parks in Europe with a maze, a playground, a large collection of vintage cars and motorbikes, a hunting and trophy museum and much more.

Don’t forget to visit Svendborg Brewery, where you can buy tasteful beer, local wine and delicious chocolates.

We also highly recommend that you extend the tour with a stay in Odense for a visit at Hans Christian Andersens Museum and the Open Air Museum. Or just to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the city center.
